VOICES – Sohaib Rahman

by admin on November 17, 2009

Far across the death valley, I hear voices

A sound that comes from beyond the hills

It sounds familiar, but distinct

As if indifferent to the rain of blood

It comes pure and innocent

For gun and smoke do not implode within

It hates noise so the blasts do not occur

It speaks original so lies do not behold

It sings from far, far across the space

From dimensions quite alien

Yet it jingles in my heart

And echoes in my brain

And that tells me why

It comes without a messenger

For this is within my seeing

Imprinted on my soul

And inherent in my being

And I was the candle

Searching for light

I was the flower in the spring

The final message in times

Why would I scream?

“Thirsty!” When I was stream

But I am a drop and will not sink

Neither in depths nor into brink

I am not to be left behind

Or even to flow with the tide

For I am to rise above its glide

The drop that rises from the mouth of the torrents

Toward the Sun smiling at the little form

Sailing in the wind into the clouds’ enigma

The chaste of a unicorn in the soar of an eagle

Between fogs in the haze, in flight in the mist

It blocks flares of sun, suffers strokes of heat

It rises to form, it congeals to occur

The drop of water, the fresh spatter of rain

That brings life, and love

Which ends the draught of death

It comes to say

And together we speak, together we know

“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death”

The following poem exhibits and portrays a descriptive review of the current situation in the south-east Asian region. The happenings in this region; the bomb shelling; slaughter and massacre is described with a blend if human emotions and a voice of oppression. Parallel to this theme, a feeling of optimism and a ray of hope is also depicted to engross encouragement among the readers. As a whole, the poem is a fine blend of art of emotions and enthusiasm, aimed at bringing a change around!

Change, evolution, progress require no money,no arms,no power but it requires a STEP TO BE TAKEN … a step known as the 1ST STEP … and Mr. Sohaib , judging him from this poem .. has already made his mind for the CHANGE and has taken the 1ST STEP …
Best of luck Sohaib !!

Thanks a lot for your response guys! The change – influenced by these voices – is embedded within the persona of each and every one of us; these voices are a stimulus to wake up that sleeping part of our own self. And yes! This is the time for this evolution of self-correction to begin. This is how transformations within individuals produce revolutions in society and, Insha’Allah, this is how we will begin on our journey of change.
